The COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world in early 2020, impacting all 16 countries where Room to Read operates. According to UNESCO data, school closures left an estimated 1.5 billion children out of school.
Although our usual Literacy and Girls’ Education Programs were paused, the Room to Read team quickly and effectively pivoted programmatic activities to include distance learning opportunities for students, such as TV and radio programs, direct messaging and remote mentoring. To complement these activities, our global research, monitoring and evaluation team developed an additional set of indicators to track and measure each activity.
