Neema is a social mobilizer for Room to Read's Girls' Education Program in Tanzania. As a young girl, Neema faced many challenges in her life. Raised by a single mother, her family struggled financially and it was difficult to make ends meet. As a student, Neema saw nearly half of her classmates drop out of primary school -- she was one of two girls in her class who continued on to secondary school, and the only girl who graduated and attended university. These experiences made Neema passionate about helping other girls achieve their dreams by staying in school, and she decided to join Room to Read's staff.
Over the past year, many girls in low-income communities have faced immense obstacles due to the pandemic. Girls are at higher risk than ever of dropping out of school permanently. However, thanks to the hard work and dedication of social mobilizers like Neema, these girls have access to the critical resources and support they need to stay in school.
