Becoming A Champion for World Change is Simple

Advocating for global literacy is easier than you think. Change your cover photo, host a Read-a-thon, no idea is too big or too small. We've got the resources to get you started.

Though you might be separated physically, you have the power to bring people together by encouraging the sense of community inherent in fundraising for a common cause. Turn activities that you and others are taking part in at home into creative ways to build awareness around the current challenges facing education, all while creating engaging online events to encourage your coworkers, teammates, friends and family to participate and donate.

Types of Online Fundraisers

Challenge fundraisers are when an individual takes on a personal challenge – either physical or non-physical – to support Room to Read. The challenger sets a goal and rallies their friends, family, co-workers and teammates for support as they hit milestones and as they embark towards their goal.

The goal can be anything you want — training for a fitness goal, learning to play an instrument, or exploring a new hike each week.

Online Event Fundraisers are on-site events that have been transitioned to an online platform. They can take many different forms, including:

  • A Q&A session with an author or inspirational speaker in your community
  • An art, dance, music, yoga or cooking class to teach a certain skill
  • A partnership with a local studio to host regular classes for attendees for a donation

You can set up a fundraiser, as for donations and provide your donors with content via livestream or play prerecorded videos through platforms like YouTube or Vimeo.
