Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, Room to Read is creating a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality. We are achieving this goal by helping children in low-income communities develop literacy skills and a habit of reading, and by supporting girls to build skills to succeed in school and negotiate key life decisions. We collaborate with governments and other partner organizations to deliver positive outcomes for children at scale. Room to Read has benefitted more than 23 million children across 20 countries and over 40,700 communities and aims to reach 40 million children by 2025.

#IWriteBecause: Everyone has a story to tell, what's yours? 

 
Reedsy, a UK publishing start up, joined forces with Room to Read to launch the #IWriteBecause campaign bringing together a global community of authors and writers in support of global education!   

How it worked? 

Authors and writers submitted inspirational one-minute videos sharing why they write. The initiative connected the widely-dispersed writing community through a common passion by asking the question: why do you write?  

For every video submitted, Reedsy donated $10 to Room to Read. Since its launch, the campaign generated close to 100 videos, 2,100 posts, and reached over 6.7 million people across the globe — and helped raise awareness and funds for our literacy and girls' education programs. 

We were thrilled to partner with Reedsy, which is a proud believer that every child should have access to education, the freedom to raise their voices and share their message with the world.
